Beacon Training

Our official avalanche training was canceled today, so Spencer took me out to practice using my beacon. Here he is explaining the rules of the game in thigh-deep snow. While I hiked to the top of the hill in my rented randonée gear, Spencer buried his own beacon in the snow and caught up with me above. Then I skied down with my beacon and shovel and probe and found his beacon. Good practice, good exercise. The real randonée skiing comes tomorrow. It promises to be a beautiful day.
