Cheenavala
A glimpse of the Keralan backwaters. We went for breakfast in a restaurant overlooking the Chinese fishing nets .. there are dozens of them, probably hundreds .. You might just be able to make out the net here.. they are lowered into the water at night and illuminated to attract the fish.. the fishermen live in little huts that are part of the construction ... when I say hut it can be a bit of plastic sheet stretched over some of the frame ... the nets look almost alien at times but very beautiful ....
The nets are unique to this area. It is believed that they were introduced by traders from the court of the Chinese ruler Kublai Khan. And outside of China this is the only other place that these nets can be found! Whole stretches of coast here are lined with them ..
You may be able to make out more of the detail here. I will get some closer pics in the future.
