Berwick Upon Tweed
It may seem an unusual place for a sundial, on the old bridge over the Tweed at Berwick but it does read the correct time - as may be seen on the Town Hall clock beyond.
From there we wandered up Marygate, continued right up as far as the station, down to the ramparts and over to the coast. Low tide allowed a good view of Ladies Skerr's Pericline, (Extra 1) an unusual feature resulting from folded rocks and surface erosion. A detailed account is to be found in this academic paper ( D.C.Greig. From Scottish Borders geology: an excursion guide edited by A.D. McAdam, E.N.K. Clarkson, P. Stone. Edinburgh : Scottish Academic Press, 1972) as Excursion B, part 2.
Returning home towards the Whiteadder reservoir we could see a great deal of smoke, reminiscent of a wildfire, however, the red colouring is merely the setting sun!
