Make do and mend

We used to have a dark blue ceramic lamp, circa the 80s, bought from Habitat. We thought it was the last word in stylish accessorising. It survived the car journey home from Edinburgh and a few more years after that, but unfortunately had a tumble that resulted in a smashed base. I remember we were both very sad about this, as the lamp had been a treasured possession. It wasn’t terribly expensive, we just really liked it.

Ards Man to the rescue! He very patiently glued the pieces together and ever so carefully wound string over the base of the lamp, covering the white cracks in the dark blue ceramic. The lamp has had a new lease of life and has been with us in it’s stringy form for another 25 years!

We’ve been upcycling since before it was invented.... :)
