A Scream of Joy
Dear Diary,
It is Groundhog Day and everyone's eyes were on Gobbler's Nob, Pennsylvania this morning to see if Punxcutawney Phil would see his shadow. I am happy to report, I watched the proceedings live, that this year he predicts an early spring! Hooray! Although, right now, it is -10F. This face on the tree in my yard looks a bit horrified but hang in there, spring is right around the corner according to Phil.
This little bit of silliness for Silly Saturday has been going on for 133 years and was brought to Pennsylvania by German immigrants who used badgers. Since there were no badgers in Pennsylvania they turned to the groundhog or woodchuck. Those of us in the frozen north have to have something to get us through the winter!
