Acrostic - 1872
Dear Diary,
I haven't reached back in time for a long time! This is a page from my great-grandmothers autograph book. She was about 20 years old when her cousin, George Van Wagner wrote this lovely acrostic in it for "Emma". Both autograph books and acrostic poems were hugely popular in the 19th century. I remember writing them in elementary school, usually in February for Valentine's Day, when we used a name of a friend, and Washington and Lincoln's birthday when we used facts about the presidents. They really are a lot of fun to do. I did one for Blip as an extra. The idea is to list characteristics or attributes of the person in sentences beginning with a letter of their name. Try it!
ps. Punxsutawney Phil, the groundhog, did not see his shadow this morning thus predicting an early spring. Great except the real weatherman is predicting an major ice storm for Thursday! Not so great.
