Restaurant Week

One of our favorite weeks to live in this great city is Restaurant Week! During the last week of January and first week of February, hundreds of restaurants all over Chicago try to incent the people to come out of hybernation, buck the cold weather and enjoy some of their chefs top culinary creations with a reasonable prix fixe menu. This weekend was a no-brainer for my girls as the temperatures were up 80 degrees from just a few days ago, the city was alive again and they are self proclaimed "foodies".
We enjoyed the warm walk downtown and a fabulous dinner overlooking the iconic Water Tower. The tower, built in 1869 from yellowing Lemont limestone, is 182.5 feet tall. Inside was a 138-foot high standpipe to hold water. In addition to being used for firefighting, the pressure in the pipe could be regulated to control water surges in the area. Together with the adjacent Chicago Pumping Station, it drew clean water from water cribs in Lake Michigan. It was one of the only buildings to survive the great Chicago fire of 1871. The Chicago Water Tower now serves as an art gallery and features the work of local photographers and artists, and filmmakers and is a "must see" when you visit the city.
I'm thankful for this time out with my girls as we always enjoy new experiences and the chance to enjoy a meal out together. I hope you get a chance in the next couple of weeks to find a new restaurant, share a meal and get out and enjoy.
