Avanti Popolo!
Right, that’s long enough for tarting myself here. Time to put the balloon back in the sock drawer. What lovely people youse mostly are.
So, Saturday - rugger, and the k.o. of the six nations and a fine performance by our boys - 33-3 to us, so it was. And then I went off to make a cup of tea. 33-20 then.
And later, through to Glasgow to see the Young’uns perform the Ballad of Johnny Longstaff. A Christmas present from young H, of the most worthy kind. The true story of the man, featuring his own voice, original songs of both ernest and humorous bents and the retelling of much socialist derring-do. On the way home, I sang lustily. There’s a Valley in Spain called Jarama,
It’s a place that we all know so well,
It is there that we gave of our manhood,
And so many of our brave comrades fell!
Marvellous.
