Tongariro National Park

The mountains from the left: Tongariro - the one with the crossing that recently erupted - and from the other side you can see is still steaming; Ngauruhuhoe - Mount Doom from Lord of the Rings; and Ruapehu - the one where people ski in winter but have to be prepared for the occasional eruption potentially causing a lahar - the paths of which are marked on the ski maps, just so you know where to get out of the way.

Spectacular mountains. This is the view we have from our cabin and it has been amazing watching the light change on them over the day. This shot is only from about 30 metres from the cabin. Its multiple shots merged (eventually) by Photoshop.
