Hospital
Sometimes parts of central Maputo are eerily quiet. While certain stretches are busier, it's a far cry from the constant bustle of most African capitals.
This hospital seemed deserted as I passed, which was bizarre given that Mozambique does not perform brilliantly in global healthcare statistics, and it's fair to say that countrywide there are insufficient facilities to treat the population. I took heart from the absence of scenes of despair and suffering which are usually rife outside hospitals and health centres.
Elsewhere offices cranked back into gear after the public holiday. The day was successful: some non-emergency appointments, proceeding with routine operations and a couple of urgent calls.
