The big slide
The second day of our holiday and we are in Chur. This is a day with nothing specific planned so we decided to go up the mountain and go for a walk.
We arrived at the cable car, purchased our ticket and off we went. It takes two cable cars to get up the mountain, we got to the first lift station and all got out but there seemed to be a problem and we all had to hang around. After about 15 minutes it was confirmed that the next lift would not be running due to high winds. Everyone got in the original cable car to go back down. We asked if we could walk to the top, the chap said we could but that we might need to walk all the way down. No problem and we set off, it was a long walk and hard work and steep in places. As the lift was shut we had the walk almost to ourselves and enjoyed the views and the bird song on the way up. We arrived at the top at lunch time and went for a cup of coffee and something to eat.
We had a wander around the small village at top and then started back down. We did pass the lifts and check if it was running, it was not. We decided to cut out some walking by sliding down one of the ski runs, we kept mainly to the edge but because of the lift being closed there were only a few people around so we were not in the way at all. We had great fun and it was much quicker than walking. The lift we had got up to the half way point was still running so we got that down. We mentioned that we had only been able to get the lift half way and were given a refund of half our lift fee. We headed to a bar to relax with a beer paid for with our refund. We did rather enjoy our walk and slide.
