Murmuration.
Clickychick had seen on farcebook mention of a murmuration of Starlings near Southwaite services. Clearly as it was not far we had to go and have a look. Things at first didn't look promising, we found a tree with a few hundred being harried by a Sparrowhawk.
Suddenly clouds of birds could be seen heading in from all directions, heading for woods behind us. A quick turn round and find another parking place. Other cars stopped at various points along the road.
For between half an hour and three quarters clouds of birds were arriving from all directions. Had all the birds been in the air together it would have been by far the largest murmuration I have ever seen. Sadly this cloud was about the average size but lots of clouds this size arrived and dropped into the wood.
An hour or so very well spent. All the while traffic was zooming up the M6 one field away never knowing what they were missing.
