Not El Rastro's most bustling sidestreet, I'll grant you, but definitely a novel way of displaying bargain paperbacks (elsewhere, emptying them out in heaps onto blankets on the pavements seemed to be the favoured method.) We had a fascinating wander around the flea market and managed to buy nothing but some very fine tostadas from a hole-in-the-wall cerveceria of some apparent antiquity. Then we had coffee in La Latina, went to see Picasso's 'Guernica' at the Museo Reina Sofia, had a stroll through El Retiro (though we gave the queue to go on the Boating Lake a swerve) and rounded off the day with Flamenco...
