A Winter Wonderland
After our relaxed weekend away in lovely Croydon, an adventure to the City beckoned.
We arrived in London Town as the sun was beginning to set & so with a quick tube journey from Victoria to Westminster, we were soon beneath the towering magnificence of Big Ben & the Houses of Parliament. With a chill in the air & dusk closing in, we made our way across towards South Bank & to the London Eye. From that vantage point, the beautiful architecture of the Houses of P stood out stark against the stunning setting sky.
We made our way along South Bank through a brilliant Christmas Market, & whilst we took in its festive sights & sounds, we treated ourselves to a warming mulled wine. Yum!
We then trekked & tubed to Hyde Park & to Winter Wonderland. It's very exciting & busy & colourful & really good fun. There were more markets, lots of food & drink on offer, plenty of rides (which we didn't go on!) & an ice rink, our destination this evening.
Now, neither Jenny nor I are blessed with a gift on the ice, so we were rather tentative on the ice to begin with. Of course it might have had something to with the over tight, pinching boots we had to crush our feet into. Jen was even a little scared before we slid out onto the ice, but after a few (quite a few) laps of the rink clasped to the side rail, following a line of equally nervous skaters, she joined me & rest of the hoards. Neither of us fell, we came close a couple of times, no thanks to those show-offs going the wrong way round, or backwards, or from side to side, or upside down, but we managed to gather some speed & have a fun time. Not quite as much fun as when we eventually got to remove our boots, shake of the cramp & race for another mulled wine, but fun nonetheless!
We had a great evening & thankyou Jenny for arranging this little trip to a magical place.
Three day weekend over & out.
