Emma D's diary

At home: Tomorrow is a lovely day

Ella was an evacuee for the day today. I went to see her work at school on war time children. It made me think about those children at christmas. How sad and confusing it much have been for them being away from their families.

Ella bought this note home and put it on our christmas tree. These are the words to a song the child evacuees sang on the train on leaving their families. The song given to that tear stricken child to convince themselves to be strong minded and happy, for the war effort.

For my children, its a good note to keep on the tree. How lucky they are to have a childhood where they look forward to tomorrow because they love life and fear nothing.

Can you imagine a childhood where you live in fear of tomorrow? What a harsh thought at christmas time. x
