Rose-ringed parakeets
I know they are far away but they are there. These are also called ring necked parakeets. They are gradually moving north across England. These have been established in Backhouse Park in Sunderland for a few years. I believe this is the furthest north they are. They are the parrot that breeds the furthest north in the world.
Extras are other areas of the park. The crocuses are lovely at the moment.
The sexes are different.
The adult male sports a red and black neck ring and the hen and immature birds of both sexes either show no neck rings, or display shadow-like pale to dark grey neck rings. Both sexes have a distinctive green colour. Rose-ringed parakeets measure on average 40 cm (16 in) in length, including the tail. They are noisy and you usually hear them before seeing them.
Sorry about the quality of the image but it was a phone.
