Meiringspoort
Today we set off to scope out the route to the Cango caves. We were booked to visit tomorrow at 1100, before moving on to our next destination. The Cango caves had been one of W's "must do" visits for this trip, and Prince Albert had seemed a good place to book accommodation to visit them. That was, until we discovered that the intervening Swartberg Pass was such a difficult drive.
So we looked at alternative routes over the intervening mountains, and decided to see how long it would take to get there via the Meiringspoort pass. Obviously, you don't drive past a sightseeing spot like the waterfall without visiting. Given the lack of rain, we were concerned that there would be little more than a trickle. In fact, it was quite an impressive fall.
We then drove on to the caves. When I'd looked on the internet, the website had said they were very busy, and that it was important to book, so we had booked for tomorrow. But since we were there, we thought we would enquire, and were able to get tickets for the very next tour. So we cancelled our booking for tomorrow, had a coffee whilst waiting, then set off into the depths.
Really big stalactites and stalagmites, one looking just like an old crone's face, some just awe inspiring. I've added some views in extras.
Now in Oudtshoorn, having a rather mediocre meal and using the free Wi-Fi, as our current lodging has none. I've blipped for yesterday, should you be interested.
Moving on tomorrow will now be a more leisurely trip, since we don't need to fit in a trip to the caves first.
Edit - I've combine the extras into a collage to save on extras
