Back in the era!!
A visit to the Fashion and Textile Museum near London Bridge Station, to see the Spring Exhibition, Swinging London. It covered the work of Mary Quant, Terence Conran of Habitat, also Bernard and Laura Ashley.
I recognise most of the work, with the exception of Mary Quant’s makeup!!! Poverty struck student nurses couldn’t afford those prices. The clothes were a different matter. The styles were simple and easily made. You didn’t need much material when mini skirts were that short!!! I could buy inexpensive material from the market on my day off, run it up and wear it to go out at night!!!
This mini skirt is about 14 ins long (35cms for ‘younger’ blippers). These short skirts prompted the introduction of tights.
One item in the Habitat display was the ‘drinks’ low unit in extras. There wasn’t an information label for it, everything else had one, and no one could tell me anything about it.
I love it and would give it house room given half a chance. It would have been made in the mid....late 1960’s.
We spent time in Hay’s Galleria before heading home.
