Somewhere over the rainbow!
What a splendid start to the day I had today. I met up with my amiga Lynne outside the local Sports Centre at 0600 for an early morning run. There was a light dusting of snow on the ground so not only did I feel hardcore for being out running at such an ungodly hour but also because I was running in the snow. It was a new route for me chosen by my Super fit companion. For me it was quite a quick pace and we ended up doing 7.8 miles at a pace of 8.25" per mile . Probably a PB for me at this distance. I think that I also pushed Lynne a bit too as I have a tendency to start pretty quickly. We made a good wee team this morning and I am looking forward to seeing improvements in my running over the next few months.
Getting up so early meant that I was home in plenty of time to get a shower and a cup of tea in preparation for my inaugural commute on my GR8. It is an absolutely amazing machine to ride. I have a couple of quite steep hills to negotiate on my way to work and I was a little bit concerned that I might struggle with them. I needn't have worried. I am not going to win a mountain stage of the Tour de France on it but slow and sure certainly wins the race. I loved the upright position and it is without a doubt the most comfortable bike ride that I have ever experienced in my life. I am not sure why but I was visualising myself as Miss Almira Gulch riding away from Dorothy's farm with Toto in tow. Perhaps it was the surreal cycling experience that caused this image to flash in my head.
A place where there isn't any trouble. Do you suppose there is such a place, Toto? There must be. It's not a place you can get to by a boat or a train. It's far, far away.
