Contemplating their chances...

Passing through Hamburg this afternoon, I stopped at one of the Christmas markets on the edge of the Binnen Alster lake. This lake sometimes freezes over completely in winter, and when this happens, the city hosts an 'Alstervergnuegen' - a kind of fair on the frozen lake itself, with skating and mulled wine, and food stalls. It looks like the lake has already started freezing and these seagulls were taking advantage, using it as the perfect vantage point from which to observe the Christmas shoppers and keep a look out for dropped chips and other goodies...
They're nice looking gulls and I love their red legs so I hope they got lucky!
