Schadenfreude is the experience of pleasure that comes from learning of the troubles of another - not something I would readily succumb to, I hope.

But coming back from New Zealand there was a little anticipatory schadenfreude - sure that having come from a trip where there was a day and a half of warm rain out of 42 days, that those we had left behind would have been suffering the depths of winter.    A little peeved, perhaps, to discover that was far from the case.

However, normality seems to be reasserting itself.
