Not Blackthorn

The beautiful weather we had at the end of last month brought lots of flowering trees into bloom. My image is of a flower on a sucker thrown up by the rootstock of a pink flowering cherry. It's very similar to the mirabelles (Prunus domestica) and cherry plums (Prunus cerasifera) flowering in hedges at the moment, some of which are already going over, releasing clouds of petals like snow. Notice how the sepals curve away from the petals. 

I photographed the tiny tight buds of blackthorn (Prunus spinosa) today too. The flowers open before any leaves appear and their sepals hug the petals rather than curving away from them.
