Frozen
I was working from home today but as it was another gorgeous cold start I nipped out for 30 minutes before I started work. I went to Wolvey, the next village out of town. The village won best Village in Warwickshire in 2011. You'll see why shortly.
I've passed this area many times but never realised what was hiding behind the fence. To be honest, It's right on a nasty road junction, so my attention is always on the road.
This area is Wolvey's Wetland Reserve, a small area tucked in a corner of the village. While taking a few pictures one of the locals came up to me and we got chatting (well, as much as one wants to when its -7 degrees). He told me he was one of twelve locals who act as custodians of this little nature reserve.
In recent years they've cleaned the place up including clearing the pond regularly. They obtained grants from numerous places and with the money, installed a fabulous boardwalk around the pond area. Not only that, the boardwalk itself, despite looking entirely natural wood is in fact made from recycled plastic.
You can just see two figures at the edge of the pond. Look closely - they are not real!
The church is St. John the Baptist. A church has existed here since medieval times. One of the bells has been dated c1400.
Anyway, back to a days solitude surrounded by computers and screens. Or so I thought. At 2:30, my broadband decided to throw a bennie. An hours tinkering, restarting stuff, checking configs etc and still nowhere. By 4 I'd managed to get onto Virgin's website to determine that they had a major fault in the area and a fix-time est 7:30. It came back around 7:20!
