Carskey Bay, Big Waves and an Actor
8.5C and cloudy with some brighter spells. Overnight SW/WSW wind to 39 mph with gusts to 56 mph (gusts were above 50 mph for several hours) decreasing to a moderate SW breeze throughout Sunday.
Grocery shopping.
We drove the ten miles or so South to Southend then followed the road round past Dunaverty beach and Kiel to Carskey Bay. No seals on the rocks at Kiel today as the tide was well in and the waves very active after last nights high wind.
At Carksey we headed for the beach and at the slope where we walk down to the sand a couple who had walked over from the car park just before us was waiting and looking at the three cones marking the steep drop off to the beach which we have had to negotiate since an Easterly storm came a few weeks ago and washed away the easy walk down to the beach. The man smiled and said something to the effect that it all looked a bit crumbly. I briefly explained about the storm and pointed out that it was possible to manage down at the corner of the old slope. He thanked me but said they didn't fancy trying, so Fergus and I went down and I helped Apothecary7 with the step down. As we were heading off along the beach and into the spray thrown up by the excellent waves we turned and saw that the lady had got down and was taking some pictures. You might well ask why I mention it. Well, the man was no less a person than the actor Jon Morrison who appears as DC Kenny Lockart in the television version of Vera by Ann Cleeves. I had recognised him as soon as he turned to speak to me and his distinctive voice confirmed it. Hands up anyone who remembers him from "Just Another Saturday" in 1975 ...
We walked along to the far end of the beach and back enjoying the waves and the spray.
Fergus was on his lead.
As we passed the Muneroy restaurant/cafe in Southend on the way home we spotted the actor's car parked outside. Lunch or a giant meringue is the question :-)
Later Apothecary 7 was painting.
BBC Radio 2 was the musical backdrop.
