Still Some Lights On

One of Mum's best friends passed away a week ago and the funeral was today in Scotland. May and Mum played together when they were still in single figures which makes their friendship more than eighty years long. They also worked together and went to the dance halls. They both lost their husbands prematurely and ran businesses and brought up kids on their own. May lived on Cumbrae just across the water from Mum"s home but died in hospital on the mainland. Early this morning before the (relative) rush hour, Mum went down to the small ferry to go over to the island. It seems entirely apt that May's hearse with her coffin was on the same crossing and Mum accompanied her old friend on her final journey home.
