Guard or trespasser?

A rather miserable day today but the weather managed to fine up for a little while later this afternoon. I had some parcels to post and had a wander around and came across this pheasant in a garden which leads on to the beach - not sure whether he was guarding or trespassing. I think maybe the later as he made a run for it once he spotted me!
