White-faced heron
Today we hired some bikes in Queenstown to explore some of the many cycle tracks in the area. We headed around the shore of Lake Wakatipu in good weather. As forecast, the weather soon deteriorated and a couple of hours later we had heavy rain.
I spied this white-faced heron on the end of a jetty and he kindly posed for me. The white-faced heron is New Zealand's most common heron, despite being a relatively new arrival to this country.
Today's extra shows the bad weather closing in. Needless to say we got rather wet, but we soon dried out.
