Goldfinch
Another wild and woolly day with squalls of sleet and hail swooping across throughout the day. Tony went off orienteering at Wharncliffe so I made some cheese and carrot puffs to go in to the freezer for next week's apres Shamrock Shuffle bash at ours. Then it was some cleaning and tidying and a bit of much needed washing.
After lunch I walked up to St Ives to meet Hobbler Bev. We had planned to push our injuries just a bit and do a short prep run for the Shuffle so we walked up on to the level path which leads to Coppice Pond with the intention of heading along the flat and then turning to do some circuits of the pond. As we set off running, a hailstorm began straight in our faces and, without saying anything, we both turned and ran in the opposite direction, ha hah. Four circuits of the pond and a wrong decision to return by the very slippy, muddy bottom path and we had covered about 2.3 miles, an improvement in distance on our other recovery runs.
Back home and there was just time to put the camera out of the bedroom window during a lull in the awful weather, and blip this goldfinch keeping a beady eye or two on the feeders, then it was time to ready the roast chicken, mix the yorkshires and put the kettle on in readiness for Tony's return. Apparently I made the right decision to remain at home as the courses were very rocky and tough, wouldn't have done my knee any favours!
