the Bridge to No-where
I last crossed this bridge about twenty years ago when I was involved in an inquiry in to flooding on the Sulby River.
I never then gave any thought to its purpose but I have done now. As you can see it is well built and that would have required much effort. There is a rough track going up the hillside where I am standing. I had to follow it and after a climb of about twenty minutes came to a tholtan called Ballaskella.
One went past a couple of small disused stone quarries and this stone was presumably used to build the bridge and farm buildings.
A small insight in to life one hundred and fifty years ago.
