Recycled art?
There's a new exhibition at the Bury Sculpture Centre called 'Architecture Now'. I like art and sculpture but unfortunately don't understand the link between folded pieces of cardboard and magazine cut outs of naked ladies glued onto photos of buildings.
Apparently "Throughout history, architecture has been the creative form most closely entwined with symbols of power. In a society where building is mostly profit driven, architects create our living environment and work to function against this imperative. Faced with challenges of climate change to failing public housing, the tension between good architecture and bad building has never been starker. Globally there is new energy emerging in community place making and creative green solutions. ‘Architecture Now’ features installations by innovative Manchester architect Maurice Shapero and feminist printmaker Sarah Hardacre noted for her work investigating class and women’s experience of the built environment."
I hope the cleaner has been told not to put it in the paper recycling bin at the end of the night!
It reminds me of an exhibition I went to when I saw a piece of screwed up A4 paper on the floor and went to pick it up - before being told it was part of the installation!
Quote for today:
It is not hard to understand modern art. If it hangs on a wall it's a painting, and if you can walk around it it's a sculpture.
