A New Day

Forteviot. Perthshire

Another lovely sunny (and windy) day today, perfect for going out for a drive to look for a blip cleaning the windows:-)  That's the trouble when the sun actually shines - it shows up all the dust on the furniture and the smears on the windows.  I could happily ignore it, claiming I can't see it anyway (not quite true yet!), but TJ has higher standards.  So he cleaned the windows, while I waved a duster around and then it was time for some lunch and finally, we got out for that drive!

We headed towards Forgandenny and Dunning, passing the lovely village of Forteviot on the way.  I thought initially that the photo I took showed a hospital or school, but it turns out to be far more interesting than that.  The whole village was rebuilt in the 1920s as a model village by the 1st Baron Forteviot (of the Dewar's whisky family) in the style of the Garden Cities that were springing up around the country.

However, pretty as they all are, the village has an even more fascinating past.  It has evidence of structures from the Later Neolithic period (3000 - 2200 BC) and a 9th century palace, where Kenneth MacAlpin a king of Scotland is reputed to have died. What stories the land could tell:-)

A couple more shots in Extras of the River Earn and the view downhill towards the Ochil Hills.  A most enjoyable drive.

Once home again, I had an appointment with the podiatrist, so now I have my dancing feet again:-)
