Juno.
Today we decided to visit some of the beaches the Allied Armies landed on during d-day. Our hotel was overlooking Sword beach which was British then on to Juno which is where we decided to head for. The weather today has been very blustery to say the least and when we actually got out of the car at Juno Beach we were nearly blown away.
We walked to the beach and stood and just watched for a while trying to imagine the past secrets that this innocent looking beach once held.
The Juno Beach Museum was or next stop which was excellent. The story of Juno’s beach starts with the Canadians who bravely took this beach and were able to march on in land making the most ground of any landing that day. The wonderful films we saw and testimonies from those who were there all helped to bring the whole event to life. Just as in WW1 these brave young men put their lives on the line for all of us today.
After Juno we made our way a little further up the coast visiting Gold Beach another British Invasion Beach where we were able to see the remains of the Mulberry Harbours not far from the shore.
All too soon it was time to make our way back to the hotel. We decided to try a local fish restaurant a few yard away from the hotel whic was excellent. Then home to bed all very tired but happy!
