The churchyard

Last night's concert was truly amazing - to think that a bunch of boys raging in ages from 13 - 18 years old can produce a concert of such professional quality, with only weekly practices of a couple of hours, well it's just incredible. The venue was packed to the rafters as many of the local community also attended, not just parents and boys of the school. Holst's suite of The Planets is a popular work, and the symphony orchestra performed it beautifully - they received two standing ovations at the end of it. Thomas counts it as one of the best moments in all his time at the school. He personally played very well, we were told by both the conductor and his trumpet teacher (who was asked to swell the ranks), that Thomas performed the best he has ever heard and played his first trumpet part flawlessly.

Today has been another day of foul weather. This endless strong wind is getting annoying now, it has been blowing non stop for over a week now and the trees are all bending at threatening angles and the blossoms are getting blown off the trees.

I am thinking of my mother today as it would have been her 83rd birthday. I cannot believe that only 3 years ago we were happily celebrating her 80th birthday with her, and then at the end of that year she was gone. Cancer is a horrible, insidious disease.

Next week when we go to Glencoe the weather looks miserable - rain and photography do not make a good combination! All those rain spots on the lens that continually need wiping....

This is the local churchyard and I thought it suited the dull weather today.
