Empty Bowl
In 1990 a high school art class in Michigan had a bunch of bowls they'd made and wanted a way to show off their skills. They held a community meal and people donated soups, the kids donated bowls, the guests donated cash and after the meal was over the money was donated to feed the hungry and the guests were invited to keep their bowl as a reminder hunger in the world.
.
The idea has spred from there and this meal was served in West Virginia with bowls produced by students in the art department of WVU. During the morning and afternoon the line to get in to the hall where the meal was served stretched into the parking lot.
