Moss
I had a look in our garden pond for signs of frog spawn but there was no sign of any animal life. The plants are growing well and the moss on the stones and around the pond is thriving in the damp environment.
Researching moss, I discovered there are around 1000 bryophyte species in the UK. Bryophyte is the term that includes both mosses and Liverworts.
Mosses are important ecologically as one of the first colonisers of bare ground. They absorb huge quantities of water and create a locally humid environment. They act as an important home for many different creatures.
Why then, do a lot of gardeners get rid of moss.
