Signs of Spring

Today would have been my wonderful father’s 102nd birthday. It always seemed to mark the start of Spring and today was truly bright and sparkling.

I went over to Elford But there was no sign of the Kingfisher. Apparently there are signs of nesting a little further down the river and he’s often around.

Butterflies were out already. Two Peacocks greeted me as I arrived. Another Peacock fluttered outside the Boathouse and there was a massive yellow Brimstone but it was too fast.

As I strolled back to the car, I was greeted by this Small Tortoiseshell on the grape hyacinths. They were scarily rare last year - let’s hope this is a good sign.
