Thursday

I've been growing my hair for about two years now, which actually means that I've just been too lazy to visit the hairdressers. My hair was inching down my back and was basically just becoming a tangled mess that I threw into a bun every morning. Today I had it all cut off. I feel like a new woman. I really tried to enjoy long hair but it's just not me. My food club girls thought the new cut made me look Spanish / Italian. I get that a lot, because of my dark colouring and it usually leads to me bringing out an old anecdote about my grandad and his (entirely fictional) Italian roots.

At Food Club tonight we made a Keralan Veggie Curry with chickpeas, pineapple and griddled cauliflower. I would say that it was a resounding success, which it mostly was, but our Syrian girl gave it a 5 out of 10. Tough crowd. I loved it and ate two whole plates full, but that's not entirely a measure of it's success. I could easily hoover up two plates of most things.

This evening I went to hear the new Vicar of St. Chad's give the first in a series of Lent Talks. Her name is Yejide and she's an African American woman from New York. Quite the change for St. Chad's, who's Vicar has been pale and male for the last....ever.  I'm going for dinner with her and the brilliant female Minister from the URC next week and I'm so looking forward to hearing their experiences of being women in church leadership roles as well as (I'm hoping) lots of other interesting things. I've chosen one of Shrewsbury's most traditional English pubs for the meet and I'm hoping that Yejide is still in the fascinated stage of being in quaint little England.
