SILLY SATURDAY - LOTS OF SOCKS
When Mr. HCB and I were out doing our shopping at Waitrose on Thursday, we stopped for a coffee, although we no longer get a free one, but it was a good excuse to sit down especially after all my excitement in the morning.
Whilst we were sitting in the cafeteria, a man, whom we later found out was called Ian, came in with his daughter, Molly, who had a French stick in her hand and was really enjoying eating it. However, because he needed to go to the toilet, he told Molly to sit on a seat and not move, so I told him that we would watch her and he gave us a thumbs up sign and tootled off.
Ian was soon back and started chatting to us, when one of the Managers from Waitrose came over and gave him three pairs of socks and apologised that they had not been able to sell more, but told him to bring them in earlier next year. It transpired that 21st March was World Down Syndrome Day and the socks were to raise awareness of Down’s syndrome globally and to spread the word particularly for the local Down Syndrome Group.
Both Mr. HCB and I told Ian that we would buy a couple of pairs, but when he said that they were 3 pairs for £10, a deal was done and the money duly handed over. Ian said he was very grateful to us and told us that there would be a news item on the ITV News at 6 p.m. which we watched later. It was great chatting with Ian, who is Molly’s carer, although sadly, she never chatted to us, she was too intent on eating her bread!
I decided that it would be rude not to wear the socks today, so after we had had our early morning shower, Mr. HCB and I modelled the said socks. It was quite difficult getting our feet into the right position with Mr. HCB almost falling over in the process, and our legs getting tangled up, so he suggested we had two chairs and sat on them, so it would make it easier. You can see too, that I had my pink robe on for the photograph, which I think enhances the socks! However, I am dressed now, but have had a lovely morning, lounging around in my pink robe, wearing odd socks - well after all, it is Silly Saturday!
Of course, no-one would ever believe that Mr. & Mrs. HCB could be so silly, or would they?
