Pyrrhula pyrrhula
Today's blip is pure self indulgence. Bullfinches are uncommon visitors to our garden, this is only the second visit of 2019. They even more rarely visit the feeders so to have a pair on the bird table was an extremely rare event. Sadly the female wasn't keen on having her photo taken.
In the last 20 years there has been a welcome increase in the Bullfinch population, however the population is still only a little over what it was in 1975. Fossil evidence shows Bullfinches have been in Britain since the last Ice Age.
