A long day

After handing back our hire car at Balmaceda airport we headed South to Punta Arenas.

Unfortunately there are no direct flights for this 500 mile distance so we had to fly 800 miles North to Santiago before retracing our tracks with a 1300 mile flight South to Punta Arenas at the extreme southerly tip of Chile.   This took most of the day and we didn't arrive until 6pm.

Unfortunately our journey didn't finish there as we then had a 5 hour taxi journey back North to the Torres del Paine national park.   Fortunately it was a very comfortable taxi but we were pretty shattered by the time we arrived at 11.45pm.   

We stayed in a so-called Eco-Camp which consisted of a lot of dome tents of varying sizes and levels of luxury.   We stayed in a "Superior Dome"  which gave us en-suite toilet and shower and heating and electricity.   The standard domes were pretty basic by all reports.

As you can see from the picture our dome was quite comfortable if a little cramped.
