Post Office Mural
The Oxford post office is one of the old post offices in the country that have murals painted by artists in the 1930s. They earned money from the WPA program during the Depression when many, especially artists, could find work.
This is a little scene relating to our area of central New York when the settlers came in, cleared the forests, and the Indians (on the far left) paddled their birch bark canoes out with their families. Highly romanticized and condensed design.
With all the changing of history ideas going on now, including pulling down statues, denouncing slave owners of the past, and so forth, I hope the historical murals are not painted over because they are not "politically correct".
And the good news is that our post office is still open on Saturday mornings.
