What A Day

A bit of a rant…..

The concept of actually going somewhere on a bank holiday fills me with terror - and today has not helped to change my mind….

“Let’s go out and meet up with our daughter and family” says HWMBO…
“No, it is a bank holiday” I say
“It will be okay” she says
“Where are you going? I say
“Dalby Forest” she says

Cue Hitchcockian style shower scene music…

“Nooooo - that involves the A64, around York. NO WAY” I say

Anyway - I finish up driving in slow moving, overheated traffic for almost two hours to get to an overcrowded destination where the parking “jobsworths” were forcing us to ever distant car parks when then were clearly spaces available in the main car park.

In the end I did a u-turn and went in the main car park exit and parked up in one of about twenty free spaces.

We walked the “Zog Trail” for the benefit of eldest granddaughter - but it was absolutely rubbish and she lost interest.

We had a picnic in place surrounded by hyperactive, sugar fuelled children (not out grandchildren) kicking footballs and throwing frisbees at us - and free range dogs determined to steal our sausage and pork pies….

The journey home was a nightmare - over 30 mins just to get out of the place - and the the A64 was blocked by an accident - so we diverted via Helmsley and Thirsk…another two hours to get home.

Plenty of ale has been consumed - and I am still seething….

The granddaughter enjoyed it overall though…

I did manage two photos - this is one. A moss covered log in a patch of sunlight
