Scapa Tysties

Up at 3.30am to help on a survey of black guillemots (or tysties) around the islands of the flow. Great morning but the small, fast boat made photography difficult (not that I was there for that!) we counted 290 tystie with lots of other birds including over 150 great northern divers. We were all heavily wrapped up against the cold but there was no wind so it was fine. When we gor back to Stromness it was sunny and warm so we all cooked.
