Came the silence

After yesterdays fuss I slowed down, carried a pile of storybooks downstairs beside the couch to be read as goodnight stories. So last night we started with the "Christmas in Noisy Village" (we read the Finnish translation of Astrid Lindgren's book) just because it's something from my own childhood that I love.

Tonight I picked a short story The Fir Tree (once again in Finnish) by Tove Jansson - it's about a Moomin Troll family that always hibernates in winter and has no idea what Christmas is. Except one winter day they are woken up by neighbors who are making a huge fuss of the celebration. It's a lovely satire of how badly we have misunderstood Christmas but with plenty of warmth and even if it was originally published 1962 it's always very timely. Highly recommended reading to anybody before Christmas.
