Opposites, take your pick

New and old, stopped and moving, working and not working, steam and diesel, love and hate. Some of the opposites derived from these two locos down in the yard at New Romney on the Romney Hythe and Dymchurch Railway.

A grand day out on the Marsh, Romney Marsh, cycling a 33 mile route to and from West Hythe along the narrow winding lanes in the morning finishing up on a six mile jaunt along the sea wall.

Usually we stop for coffee at Lathe Barn and lunch at the railway. It was a surprise to find Lathe Barn shut with no signs of life or activity. Looks like it may have gone out of business or is between owners.

We found somewhere else to go back in Dymchurch, a lovely little cafe called The Bucket and Spade. Perhaps this will become our first stop on future rides if Lathe Barn remains closed.

There was a pleasant surprise at the end of the ride at West Hythe since we last past this way. A new craft brewery called Hopfuzz, has opened on a small industrial estate on the Royal Military Canal. What a location, couldn’t have been better, a pint of Old American Ale went down very well indeed. A place much in the style of the craft breweries in California. Very industrial with basic facilities, the Ritz it is not, but perfect for the circumstances.

Looking forward to seeing interpretations of Opposites for MonoMonday. Not sure when I’ll be awarding hearts and HMs as I’m in York from tomorrow until late Thursday evening.

The extra is another opposite as two trains cross at New Romney.
