St. Louis Cathedral
Monday
This morning, we continued our drive down to New Orleans, arriving a little after 3 pm. We are staying in a beautiful historic hotel, located in uptown New Orleans, adjacent to extensive Audubon Park, and very close to Loyola and Tulane universities. Having checked in and brought our things in, we relaxed for a while on the balcony with a glass of wine and a snack, before taking the St. Charles Avenue streetcar down to the French Quarter, passing through the Garden District, a residential area of huge Victorian mansions. We walked down Bourbon Street, and then on down to the mighty Mississippi River, where we stayed for a while watching the activity on the water - barges and other ships plying up and down - and we watched the sternwheeler Natchez set off for its evening dinner and jazz cruise - see extra. Close by is St. Louis cathedral and Jackson Square as shown in my main blip. By now, it was time to find somewhere to eat. Afterwards, we did some more wandering along the streets of the French Quarter, before taking the streetcar back to the hotel.
