Back Home

The difference between a layperson and a dedicated, desperate blipper can be summed up in this exchange- LP ‘these tulips are dead and need to be deadheaded’ DDP- ‘No , they are looking better than ever. Wait while I take a photo’.

I managed another early morning walk with my host before the last coffee with them and leaving to catch the bus home to the big overcrowded smoke.
It was only a two day stay but we managed to pack in so much chat and reminiscing with exploring the town that it seemed I had been away from Edinburgh for far longer.

It was such a delight to get away from crowds of tourists and meet ordinary Kelso burghers who would pass the time of day as we crossed paths. People don’t speak to each other in Edinburgh nowadays. The influx of tourists and busy office workers have put pay to any social interaction. It is considered slightly eccentric to talk to someone at a bus stop in the city for instance. However In Glasgow it’s a different story. There you would be considered rude and standoffish if you had no interaction with the person standing next to you in the queue. The tale of two very different cities.
