A Morning out in Peebles

His Lordship and I thought to give Peebles another chance today after our snowy stay at the beginning of the month, but it let us down again with a heavy sleet showers just after we arrived. We managed to miss most it by hiding in Colt’s café and giving us just the kind of excuse we needed to indulge in two cranberry and walnut scones of immense proportions. In the minutes before the arrival of the shower, I managed this blip of the church dominating the High Street.

With no particular agenda and the weather ruling out any pleasant walks, we got side tracked, or rather HL got sidetracked into looking at little lead soldiers made in St Petersburg which the owner of a shop had bought in a job lot from the now defunct Russian shop in Edinburgh.

He spent some time matching flags to standard bearers and instructing the shop lady as to which countries the soldiers belonged and their appropriate time in history. My attention was rather limited, but finally he pronounced them very good models (and boy should he know!) and bought a Gordon Highlander bagpipe playing soldier to add to his extensive collection.
