Tolkien Heads

Malcolm, Duncan and Dad went to Edinburgh for the day, with The Hobbit booked for the end of the day. Three hours of high frame rate 3D extravagance later and we had all had a great time.

Other than that: haircuts, gourmet burgers, winter bobbly hats, shoes and lashings of hot chocolate before the train home very, very tired. A great day together.

Big Glasses.

Every facet of the story was fleshed out, with some forgivable cinematic embellishments, and probably the only real criticism woud be that you can lose track of who all those ugly baddies are. And how come they die so easily in such vast numbers. The high frame rate does create a super-smooth effect that can feel a bit like a hi-res video game or a HD documentary at times, and the 3D depth of field is a bit layered in many scenes, but I mostly just enjoyed it for the story and best effects ever that are on show. I did shed a tear when some really recognisable quotes from the book were used and Duncan leant over and whispered, "Dad, that's exactly what it says in the book." It must be 35 years since I first read it, and he's just read through. Lovely.
