La Casa Del Abuelo - Madrid

We had an very early start to be on a 7.20am plane from Heathrow to Madrid.
Neil & Simon have planned this long weekend trip and along with M&L we are a very happy gang. We’re in a great Airbnb with great views of the royal palace opposite. After a lazy late lunch of we went on an audio tour of the palace and armoury. Wow.
Early evening we sat on a square by the palace in 22C sunshine with very large free poured GnT’s. We spotted the locals as they were wearing jackets and scarfs and the tourists were in shorts and vests.
After freshening up we headed to the wonderful old tapas bars. This was our first stop and a place Neil has been coming to since 1989, when he lived in Madrid, and we sound found out why. Sizzling dishes of prawns in garlic and olive oil with crusty bread to dip in. Fortunately everyone in Spain eats garlic.
It’s amazing how busy it was even at midnight.
